Great Fosters Hotel description
Great Fosters is a scheduled historic monument that, for hundreds of years, has welcomed guests on a regal scale from royalty and statesmen to today's international personalities of fame. It is rare to find a house of hospitality so rich in features: mullioned windows, Jacobean fireplaces, a rare oak well staircase, authentic tapestries, moulded ceilings and Persian rugs. The magnificent estate covers 50 acres and includes a spectacular topiary garden, the Knot garden with its clipped box hedges ringed by a Saxon moat and the rose gardens with arches and pergolas encircling a lily pond - a picture of Edwardian elegance. There is also a swimming pool, tennis court and croquet lawn. The recently installed amenities bring contemporary comforts wrapped in luxury whilst the candlelit restaurant weaves its own brand of magic with sumptuous food served in an ambience redolent with history.
Deluxe Historic Rooms - A selection of three stunning rooms with historic features:
The Tapestry Room, originally the sitting room of the house features 16th Century tapestries and furnishings, The bathroom has a free standing roll top bath and views across the topiary gardens. Modern touches include a Bang and Olufsen CD player.
The Italian Room as the name suggest is furnished in Italianate antiques.
Panel II is a panelled room with a four poster bed, Views are over the front lawn. The bathroom hides a secret feature.
Superior Rooms - A selection of rooms with twin or double beds. Size and view varies.
Executive Rooms - Large rooms, some with double and some with twin bedrooms. Furnishings are of a varied nature - the modern tented style or hand painted silk wall paper. Some rooms have air conditioning.
Junior Suites - Three very different suites. Queen Anne is furnished in traditional style and features the original walnut doors. The bathroom has now been equipped with a Victorian bathing machine.
Nursery has a panelled lounge with comfortable sitting area and bathroom with its door concealed in the panelling. The bedroom with its double bed features views of the gardens.
The Duke of Wellington with its tented style decor has a bathroom decorated in a New England style.
