
Cesky Krumlov tourist information
The town of Český Krumlov is a rare architectural jewel, the significance of which was certified by its designation of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage status in 1992. A unique town estate was built along the meanders of the Vltava River in the 16th century and includes a large castle area with a chateau. This chateau is the second largest in the country after Prague Castle. The historical residence of the Rožmberk family includes a number of chateau buildings such as the famous "fancy-dress" hall, a Baroque theatre and a chateau garden with the Rococo fountain. The Bellarie Summer House with a revolving stage hosts annually a number of theatre performances during the season. One of the most valuable structures, St. Vitus´ Cathedral, which was built in the south Bohemian Gothic style, dominates the town. A number of cultural events such as the International Musical Festival, the Old Music Festival, exhibitions in the Egon Schiele´s International Centre and the Cinquefoil Rose Festivals have already gained prestige all over the world and give the town a distinct atmosphere.
