Zhenjiang destination reviews
Carole Watters has been in Zhenjiang
Zhenjiang is the site of the Pearl S. Buck National Historic Site. The Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winning author lived in Zhenjiang for over 18 years. I was part of a group invited to China and to Zhenjiang to celebrate the 110th anniversary of her birth. We were part of ceremonies to dedicate a museum in her honor, to rededicate her childhood home and to participate in a symposium on Pearl Buck. The people I met could not have been niceror more gracious. We literally received the red carpet treatment, including flowers, banquets, etc. The historic sites were impressive. Imagine walking down the oldest street in China, Marco Polo Street! Zhenjiang is very much an idustrial and port city. But, it is the place to go to retrace the footsteps of Pearl Buck!
