Lijiang destination reviews
Kurt Nasarenko has been in Lijiang
I visited Lijiang for a conference in April of 2004 and was astounded with it as a location. Being from Australia I'd never heard of Lijiang and woould never have visited without having to go to the conference but can recommend it as a fascinating destination for anyone wanting to experience a genuine cultural experience. The people were so freiendly and welcoming (even though very few spoke english) and every day held something new and unexpected for us. Of course if you're going to Lijiang you'll be spending time in the Old City so while there make sure you take the walk up Lion Hill to the Temple up there. The view from the top is terrific but be warned it's a pretty tough walk if you're not fit. Just take it slow and you'll be thankful you took the walk! Try to set asside some time one night to have dinner and a few drinks at a little Restuarant in the old town at a place called Petit Paris. It's such a great little restaurant with wonderful friendly staff. We stayed at the Guang Fung Hotel and I can highly recommend it. Western standard, inexpensive and verry clean. Dinner at the revolving restaurant on the top floor is well worth the experience! If you're going to Lijiang also make a point of going out to Jade Dragon Mountain... This is a sensational day out and NOT to be missed. If anyone has questions on Lijiang you can email me. This trip really was an unexpected pleasure!
