Of its headland, the strong castle of Bubble dominates and supervises Semois which surrounds it. It represents one of the oldest vestiges of feudality in Belgium. The origins of the fortress would go up to the 10 2nd century. However, the still visible buildings nowadays date from first the the 16 2nd century half . In addition to its famous castle, Bouillon counts another fortification which constitutes in fact the first castle of the place, called the "Ramonette" and located on the "Hill of Beaumont". As its castle attests some, Bouillon knew broad passed military. The architecture of the city also testifies some. About 1680, just like the strong castle besides, the city was strengthened by Vauban. Three doors made it possible to cross the enclosure: the "Door of Liege", the "Door of France" and the "Door of the Pulley". Many vestiges are still visible. Thus for example, of the nine bastions pointed on Semois, three are preserved.
